Global Director of Programs

Position Type: Full Time 

Compensation: $95,000 – 110,000

Job Description: 

EARTHDAY.ORG (EDO) is seeking a Global Director of Programs. EDO’s mission is to build a responsive and permanent grassroots infrastructure for the environmental and climate movement. The Director will coordinate EDO’s year-round campaigns addressing fast fashion; climate education, plastics, waste management (Great Global Cleanup), (the Canopy Project). 

The Director will be responsible for working with individual program leads to design and implement national and global strategies to accomplish major substantive and public goals, along with coordinating and promoting millions of actions to support these goals.  

The Director will coordinate with Senior Management and EDO’s Development and Communications staff on all program efforts. The Director will also coordinate with the Associate Director of Global Earth Day and the EDO senior management team to integrate the Earth Day theme and agenda of activities into these year -round programs.

Responsibilities 

  • With senior management team and program directors, define clear goals and design, develop and lead national and global strategies to realize these goals. 
  • Drive substantive results across all EDO campaigns; growing public engagement and mass participation in EDO events and actions, winning policy changes in the U.S and globally, securing new partnerships with civil society, industry, indigenous and marginalized communities, and sub-national and regional government.  
  • Regularly report on the progress of each campaign and ensure that goals and objectives are being met in a timely fashion. 
  • Oversee writing, implementing, and managing MOU’s and partnership agreements for campaigns. 
  • Develop and execute effective budgets. 
  • Prepare and maintain campaign timelines and ensure the campaigns are delivered according to agreed-upon timelines and within budget. 
  • Working with our development team, take a lead role with fundraising efforts for the campaigns.  
  • Serve as an EDO representative and spokesperson at events/conferences, with diverse stakeholders and across the media. 
  • In partnership with EDO’s communications and social media teams, support and help implement outreach to drive media, public and industry awareness of EDO’s work across all its campaigns.  

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies 

The Global Director’s goal is to align programs with organizational goals and objectives with Earth Day and the organization’s overall mission which is to “Diversify, Educate and Active the Environmental Movement Worldwide.”   Leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate teams are essential for the Global Director of Programs. It is critical to possess project management skills and experience developing, managing, and controlling timelines, budgets, and schedules for projects to measure and evaluate program results. The Global Director of Programs must have excellent communicators and be able to collaborate with their teams and stakeholders. 

Othe qualifications include: 

  • Energetic and well-rounded campaigner or communicator with at least five years of project management and campaign experience 
  • Demonstrated leadership, team and innovation skills and ability to motivate and inspire colleagues.  
  • Proven track record in scaling successful campaigns (political, consumer or public) 
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral and experience in cross-cultural communications 
  • Strong analytical abilities and experience in research, monitoring and evaluation required 
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and within budget. 
  • Knowledge of and experience with development, social justice, and/or environmental issues 
  • Degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent required 
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills required, including an excellent ability to coordinate multi-office (around the globe), international activities, and to work in a virtual team; must be patient, tenacious and able to work well under pressure. 
  • Excellent command of English; other languages an asset 
  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental and social justice and values. 
  • Ability to travel. 

Location: The position will work out of our Washington D.C. (hybrid). 

Compensation: EDO offers compensation commensurate with skills and experience and will include a competitive benefits package. Salary for this position will be in the $95,000- $110,000 range commensurate with experience and considering locality.
