Foundation Relations Director

EARTHDAY.ORG’s (EDO) mission is to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. Reports To

The Foundation Relations Director will report to the Director of Development.

Job Overview

In partnership with the Director of Development, the Marketing and Corporate Sponsorships Director, and senior leadership, the Foundation Relations Director will play a critical role in supporting EDO’s development efforts. This opportunity is ideal for someone looking to build on their existing relationships and experience working with independent, family, and corporate foundations focused on furthering the environmental movement. This position will be responsible for utilizing both the candidate’s and EDO’s existing connections with foundations to bring resources to the EDO mission and will manage all aspects of grant development including cultivating independent, family, and corporate foundations. Also responsible for research, proposal writing, reporting, stewardship, and cultivation.

Responsibilities and Duties

· Establish and manage a grant strategy and pipeline

· Outreach to foundations (independent, family, and corporate)

· Work with global staff to develop and plan foundation proposals

· Perform prospect research on all types of grants to determine most viable prospects based on alignment with EDO’s programs, goals, and financial needs

· Work closely and in collaboration with the rest of the Development team on cultivation and stewardship strategies to maximize funding potential

· Maintain careful and detailed records to track proposals and grant files

· Develop and implement stewardship plan for all foundation funders, maintaining strong engagement and support of EDO mission and vision

· Manage all grant reporting, ensuring adequate recording of data and measurable outcomes, timeliness, and quality

· Stay up to date on funding sources and trends

· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s Degree (BA, BS, etc.)

· Strong connections with funders in the environmental movement

· 8 – 10 years of experience working with foundations along with grant research and writing proposals in support of the environmental movement preferred

· A proven track record and comfort level in consistently securing grants of $1mm and greater

· Success in securing new foundation support and cultivating ongoing

relationships with foundation funders

· Passionate about the EARTHDAY.ORG mission

· Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to representing EARTHDAY.ORG with enthusiasm, warmth, and professionalism

· Superior tact, discretion, maturity, and judgment in handling highly sensitive, often confidential information

· Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office software, especially PowerPoint, Word, and Excel

· Experience with CRM databases, especially NationBuilder, a plus

· The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to multitask and manage multiple projects and assignments often with competing deadlines

· Able to work well on a team and individually

· Ability to meet deadlines

· Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, organizational skills, and attention to detail

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Strong editing and proofreading skills

· Ability to work during the weekend or evenings

· Required to travel as necessary when approved by the EDO President to support the organization’s mission

Location

Currently this position is remote, post-pandemic this position would be in the EARTHDAY.ORG Washington, DC office. We welcome applications from qualified candidates located outside of the Washington, DC metro area provided they will relocate to Washington, DC when we return to the office. Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.
