EDN Spotlight: Dr. David Vaughan
December 18, 2018
The Challenge
Coral reefs are dying at a rapid rate and are threatened with extinction from the effects of climate change, over-fishing, and pollution. The Project
A coral restoration project in Florida led by Dr. David Vaughan, a Senior Scientist and manager of the Coral Restoration program at the Elizabeth Moore International Center for Coral Reef Research & Restoration. It was while working in his lab that Dr. Vaughan discovered a process to speed up the rate of growth for coral. Using a process called microfragmentation, he and his crew are able to produce hundreds of corals in a day. Dr. Vaughan postponed his retirement to work on restoring corals at Florida’s Reef Tract.More Information
