Dos Gardenias is Making Sustainable Sexy with Campaign Model Roosmarijn de Kok and partner Earth Day Network
(June 1, 2019) – Los Angeles, California. Dos Gardenias is an established luxury swimwear company, known for its philanthropic efforts to promote women’s empowerment. Now, Dos Gardenias’s founders, Brighdie Grounds and Dorothy Day, have announced they will launch the company’s first sustainable collection for 2020 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
The fashion industry can be one of the world’s top polluting industries, but it can also adopt pioneering new circular economy strategies without sacrificing style. Dos Gardenisas intends to set the standard for quality and fit in luxury swimwear, by proving sustainable can still be sexy.
Dorothy Day, co-founder of Dos Gardenias explains, “We have been meeting with mills that use Econyl since its inception in 2015, but it wasn’t until 2019 that we were able to produce Lycra that has a luxury feel and longevity, while also being environmentally sustainable.”
The new Econyl yarn Dos Gardenias is implementing does not require oil extraction or oil processing, reducing the company’s carbon footprint by 40%. The company is also using all recycled materials for hangtags and packaging and the suits further reduce their carbon footprint by being made in Los Angeles, one of their top retail markets.
Brighdie Grounds, co-founder of Dos Gardenias explains, “Virgin yarn made from petrochemicals is not biodegrade, and is responsible for shedding millions of toxic plastic fibers into our waterways and air. Econyl nylon, founded by Aquafil implements a regeneration process that uses recycled fibers made from fishing nets and scraps from mills and carpets. We are essentially transforming waste into usable nylon that can be recycled again and again, taking raw materials and creating an infinite cycle of recyclability.”
Dos Gardenias became a partner with Earth Day in 2019, underwriting the Women in the Green Economy Leadership Award, won by actress and activist Ashley Bell, and working together to create a nationwide clean-up initiative, that brought together over 500,000 volunteers to clean communities, beaches and parks.
Dos Gardenias chose the Earth Day Network organization to align with them on their longstanding commitment to the environment, and to forge ahead together to create global awareness for sustainable fashion.
“We’re pleased to see the $2.5 trillion fashion and apparel industry exploring new technologies and recycling techniques to reduce their environmental footprints,” said Kathleen Rogers, president of Earth Day Network. “Companies like Dos Gardenias can be much more than philanthropic partners. They can support innovative strategies that actually help limit carbon emissions.”
All Dos Gardenias designs for 2020 will be made from sustainable Lycra. What is most exciting about the collection are the new core one pieces and the heavy metal collection, where the founders developed signature hardware that is resilient to all waters of salt and chlorine.
Known for their impeccable fit and design, Dos Gardenias is for the confident woman, the luxury buyer, and for the woman who is seeking consciously produced swimwear, without compromise to fit, fabric or design.
The new sustainable collection will be available online via MatchesFashion and sold at top retailers like MatchesFashion and Barney’s.
