EARTHDAY.ORG PARTNERS WITH THE ANGRY BIRDS THIS EARTH DAY TO REVEAL WHY THE BIRDS ARE SO ANGRY!
April 18, 2024
Washington, D.C. (April 17, 2024)– EARTHDAY.ORG, the global force behind Earth Day, is partnering with Rovio’s Angry Birds 2 this year, in support of the Angry Birds’, BIRDS HELPING BIRDS campaign.
In their adventure game “Healing the World”, players will discover that plastics are a major source of the Angry Birds state of mind because plastic trash is hurting their feathered friends, especially sea birds. The Angry Birds discovered the terrible truth after reading Birds vs. Plastics.
The Theme for Earth Day 2024 is PLANET VS PLASTICS and here’s a beak full of truth for you – birds are having a tough time because of plastic pollution. Hundreds of thousands of them are injured every year, and many of them die. Plastic trash is in our streets, our countryside, and our oceans. The problem is that many birds mistake plastics for food, which can lead to all sorts of digestive injuries, from nasty infections to starvation. Birds are also the victims of plastic entanglement, meaning their wings, bodies, legs, and beaks get wrapped up in plastic trash and they are injured, can’t fly, cannot evade predators, and even suffocate. You can read more about it here
“We’re not surprised that plastic trash hurting real birds was one of the reasons why the Angry Birds were so mad. We are angry about it too,” said Tom Cosgrove, Chief Creative and Content Officer of EARTHDAY.ORG.
“Our campaign ‘Birds helping Birds’ raises awareness of the detrimental impact plastics have on birds and mobilizes players to reduce plastic waste. There are more than 3 billion people playing digital games daily, but games tend to be an overlooked area of action. Games can be a powerful force for raising awareness and catalyzing positive change”, says Angry Birds Brand Creative Director Giorgio Giussani.

So, ruffle your feathers and act — we all have the power to make a difference and help keep birds safe. The Angry Birds want everyone to know EARTHDAY.ORG’s three top tips to combat plastic pollution:
● Give Single-Use Plastics the Boot: Skip plastic bottles, bags, and utensils!
● Straws are for Suckers: They’re not cool and they can hurt animals.
● Sign up for a Great Global Cleanup events to help remove plastic waste
If you want to do one more thing for the birds – sign our Global Plastic Treaty Petition.
The governments of the world are gathering over Earth Day, April 22, in Ottawa to debate the UN Global Plastic Treaty – we need to send them all a loud message that what humanity, all wildlife and our beloved birds, need is less plastic production. We need to reduce it by 60% by 2040. Get flapping and make some noise!
