World CleanUp Day 2018

World Cleanup Day is Saturday, September the 15, and millions of people worldwide will take part in removing plastic and other types of waste from the world’s coastlines, rivers, parks, cities, and trails. Earth Day Network is spreading the word about this global event as part of our efforts to end plastic pollution, Earth Day Network’s 2018 campaign! Plastic in the natural environment is extremely harmful to wildlife and humans. It clogs our waterways, contaminates food chains, traps and kills wild animals and pollutes the natural world. World Cleanup Day has been embraced by 113 countries, with over 20 million volunteers taking part in one single global effort. This year’s goal for World Cleanup Day is to double the number of people taking part. Let’s reach a new record together! Here’s how you can participate: Join an existing event: Download the World Cleanup App on Google Play or the App Store to find events near you. Or, find your country on their map to access the contact information of the World Clean Up Day team leader in your country. Also, check social media for events advertised in your community. Organize your own clean-up event: In the U.S., download the World Cleanup App on Google Play or the App Store to manage your event and report on results; register your event; or contact them to tell them the location of your cleanup. In other countries around the world: Download the World Cleanup App on Google Play or the App Store to manage your event and report on results; register your event with World Clean-Up Day; and find your country on their map to access contact information of the World Clean Up Day team leader in your country. In addition to using the app to organize cleanups, World Cleanup Day will use the data collected via the app to develop new insights about:

• Illegal trash dumping sights that need to be monitored and cleaned.
• Types of plastic pollution most commonly found in different parts of the world (data that could lead to more effective policy and legislation).
• Global hotspots for the production of plastic pollution that need to be targeted for activism and change.

After the cleanup, Let’s Do it! World will release its Keep it Clean Plan with suggestions on how businesses, governments, citizens, and NGOs can reduce their impact on the problems of plastic pollution and mismanaged waste.
